surprise,surprise, maar vandaag, bijna vier maanden na de aankoop van mijn Nexus One bij Google en het shipment via Bordelinx, krijg ik deze mail in de inbox:
Import Duty on Your Recent Google Nexus Phone Purchase
You recently took delivery of a Google Nexus mobile phone through the Borderlinx UK hub. The Google website explained that UK taxes and duties would be payable on receipt (screenprint attached). Attached is a copy of the DHL invoice detailing those taxes and duties which are now payable on that transaction.
Could you please go to your paypal account and make the necessary payment to payment@borderlinx.com ,quoting your customer number (your suite number which begins 060x-xxxx). Our accounts team will be monitoring these payments so I would be grateful if you could initiate settlement within the next few days.
Het gaat om 59,21£ en dat maakt mijn toestel idd een hele smak duurder. Ik betaalde al 558,65$ (400€), waarvan 29,65$ voor DHL en daar bovenop 37,43€ voor de Bordelinx diensten. En dit terwijl er op mijn bestelbevestiging van Google duidelijk stond dat taxes 0$ bedroegen.
Bordelinx beroept zich hiervoor op een faktuur van DHL voor de BTW, daterende van 25/01 en dat men mij nu pas, 4 maanden na datum, toestuurt. Het beroept zich hiervoor op een FAQ van Google omtrent import duties and taxes.
De vraag stelt zich dan nu ook … to pay or not to pay?

Die taxes waarover Google spreekt, zijn de US state taxes. Maar vermits de nexus one direct naar het buitenland werd geshipped, vervallen die. Maar dan heb je wel nog de BTW van het bestemmingsland en de EU invoerrechten (0% op de nexus one en 6,5% op de eventuele oplader). DHL kennende, komt zoiets altijd achteraf met een overschrijving. Zelf vond ik nu ook wel dat het lang duurde en zeker niet normaal dat Borderlinx er 4 maanden mee wacht. Ondertussen is de koers van de pond ook navenant gestegen.
